Monday morning dive

the story behind the shot

I had just come up from a depth of 115 feet looking for a giant jawfish that had been eluding my photographic and diving expertise the entire trip. While doing my decompression stop at 15 feet for the required time, I decided to swim around and enjoy the sea lions that live in the area. A rather large male had been barking and swimming towards us, warning us not to get too close to the females. I proceeded with caution and adopted a very submissive posture so the big guy would let me get closer to this female. She looked so serene enjoying her moment of quiet away from the rest of the frolicking pinnipeds. Now when I see this image, I am instantly transported back to that peaceful place
with her.
